Edinburgh University Students' Association

Edinburgh University Students’ Association is a democratic, student-led organisation representing Edinburgh University students to the University and beyond. We are an autonomous body with registered charity status and value our independence from the University of Edinburgh. We work closely with the University to ensure a world class student experience for all students at the University. In addition to running campaigns and representing the students views to the University and other external bodies the association operates a range of commercial services including bars, catering and retail outlets. Our buildings are also host to the main events of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
sead

SEAD

SEAD aims to challenge the causes of poverty, social injustice and environmental degradation; and to support the community-based movement for positive social change. We believe that dynamic communities have the power to make positive changes in our society. SEAD’s projects support people to become part of this change. We work with communities in Scotland and in the developing world to exchange ideas, knowledge and inspiration. We provide tools and support to turn this into action.
shareaction

ShareAction

ShareAction is an independent campaigning organisation, working to hold companies accountable to their real owners – the people who pay into a pension fund or ISA. The billions of pounds in our pensions mean that pension funds have a huge stake in UK businesses and this gives them an enormous influence over corporate behaviour. We campaign on human rights and environmental issues; from tar sands and Living Wage to Arctic oil and human trafficking.
South Seeds

South Seeds

South Seeds is a community organisation based in Glasgow at Govanhill. We aim to work in partnership with residents and organisations within the local community to help improve the look and feel of the area. Under the climate challenge fund South Seeds are further developing the project to increase energy awareness, support residents and groups to begin composting and helping people learn more about growing food and reducing the amount of waste that we produce.
spokes

Spokes

Spokes is a voluntary organisation with 1200 members, mainly in Edinburgh and Lothian, aiming to promote cycling for everyday transport, and to persuade councils and government to do the same. Activities include lobbying, public meetings, traffic counts, stalls, bike rides, and bike maps. Cycle use has grown from 1% of commuter trips when Spokes began to 7% now. A success has been Edinburgh Council allocating 5% of its transport budget to cycling, rising by 1% annually till the next election. A failure is that the Scottish Government still allocates under 1% of its transport budget to cycling.
SPOKES East Kent Cycle Campaign

SPOKES South Kent Cycling Campaign

An active campaign group set up to encourage cycling and publicise its benefits. We are based in the East Kent area of the UK but have an interest in better conditions for cyclists everywhere. We publish a free quarterly newsletter in which we air our views and the views of others on cycling issues and ensure its widest possible distribution. We also organise a full programme of rides and cycling events in and around Kent to be enjoyed by ordinary people.
SFTUK

Students for a Free Tibet

Students for a Free Tibet (SFT) works in solidarity with the Tibetan people in their struggle for freedom and independence. We are a chapter-based network of young people and activists around the world. Through education, grassroots organizing, and non-violent direct action, we campaign for Tibetans’ fundamental right to political freedom. Our role is to empower and train youth as leaders in the worldwide movement for social justice.
SumatranOrangutanSoc

Sumatran Orangutan Society

SOS works to protect orangutans, their forests and their future. We support frontline conservation programmes and campaign on issues threatening the survival of orangutans in the wild. Our projects include rainforest restoration and developing community conservation initiatives which support the protection of the Leuser forests, empowering local people to become guardians of this precious ecosystem.
Surfers Against Sewage

Surfers Against Sewage

Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) is an environmental charity protecting the UK’s oceans, waves and beaches for all to enjoy safely and sustainably, via community action, campaigning, volunteering, conservation, education and scientific research. SAS projects target environmental issues affecting beaches including marine litter, sewage pollution, climate change, toxic chemicals, shipping and coastal development. SAS has over 50,000 active supporters across the UK.
Sustainable Carlisle

Sustainable Carlisle

We are a network of people and projects in Carlisle, that want to make our city more sustainable for ourselves and for following generations. We wish to help create a peaceful, vibrant, resilient future based on common sense, ecological wisdom and social justice.
Sustrans

Sustrans

Sustrans makes smarter travel choices possible, desirable and inevitable. We're a leading UK charity enabling people to travel by foot, bike or public transport for more of the journeys we make every day. We work with families, communities, policy-makers and partner organisations so that people are able to choose healthier, cleaner and cheaper journeys, with better places and spaces to move through and live in.
